Indeed, with the reflective departure of 2017 and the welcoming of 2018, HWA is fully ready to embrace the New Year with many improved and refined planning, introducing enhanced services, such as social-emotional support, language tutorial lessons just for our very own HWA’s students.

Merry Christmas from Hillside World Academy!

Hillside World Academy enjoyed a festive and joyous last day of term. All primary classes contributed with performances full of Christmas cheer. Middle and High School students also joined in and parents, students and staff enjoyed both class and individual performances including piano, guitar, singing and beat boxing. After the festivities, students held classroom parties.

I have 2 boys sitting across me on two occasions. Both are about the same age but both see me for different reasons.

Both are thinking hard for their future, the pursuant to their dreams, both are motivated and determined, but they decided on different pathways.

One has decided to end his formal education to pursue vocational training even it is just 6 months to complete his rightful education journey, the other is motivated to complete this path to embark to move to his “dream” university. Both have urgent tasks. They need to make decisions.

Visit to Bright Hill Evergreen Home

Our Grade 5 and 6 students went to visit Bright Hill Evergreen Home with Mr Max, Ms Lakshmi and Ms Natasha this week. The students brought food and cakes and celebrated the December birthdays of the elderly who live at the Home. The students also performed songs and conducted a bingo session, and enjoyed bonding time with the elderly.

Grade 10 at Chatsworth Personal Project Exhibition

Grade 10 and HWA teachers were invited to Chatsworth International School to have a look at the MYP Personal Project Exhibition. Our students had the opportunity to talk to other students about their projects which looked at sustainable housing, producing music, coding, building robots, cake making, cultural expressions of identity, etc.

NEA visit the Green Club to raise awareness

The Green Club was in for a treat when the National Environment Agency came to the school to raise awareness about Dengue. The students learned that only the Aedes mosquito spreads Dengue, that only the females feed on blood and that they only do so when they are carrying eggs. We were all surprised to hear that the Aedes mosquito mostly bites during the day.

SingYouth Heart Challenge

The Science Diploma students took part in the SingYouth Heart Challenge organised by the National Heart Centre of Singapore this week, where they also attended a series of lectures conducted by NHC cardiologists. To participate in the challenge, students researched cardiovascular health and produced abstracts and posters on their findings.

Grade 5 Hosts Community Development time

Grade 5 hosted the PYP Community Development session this week, starting with morning exercises and a talk on positive thoughts. They also interviewed our school counsellor Ms. Andrea. In addition, K2, Grade 2, Grade 5 and 6 used the opportunity to present their projects linked to their units of inquiry, including topics on transport and ancient Chinese civilisations.

Camp Sleepover

Last Friday, the Primary School hosted its first ever campus sleepover involving students, the Scouts and teachers. The kids enjoyed a scrumptious dinner, fun games, bonding group activities, and a campfire hosted by the Scouts. The evening ended with popcorn and a bilingual movie screening of Zootopia. The following morning students reflected on the many activities they enjoyed.
