On the first week of December, we were very honored to host the teachers from Henan Jianye Group in China. The teachers had a school tour and we shared with them our experiences on how to build a truly bilingual and bicultural international school.
This morning, our school celebrated Christmas! We had loads of fun. The performances by our students and parents were wonderful. All the classes had a party (the school bought a Christmas log cake for every class). We also had the Great Gift Exchange!
On the 13 December 2016, the Singapore Police Force paid a highly anticipated visit to HWA Kindergarten to share with the children about what they do. The police officers, from the Hougang Neighbourhood Police Centre, introduced their uniforms, weapons (T-baton, handcuffs, revolver, radio receiver & bullets), hats, modes of transport, and their roles and responsibilities to the community.
Look at these lovely junior school students having great fun during their rollerblading after school activity guided by the professional coach at the Bay front. Brilliant skating skills children!
On December 2nd an UBERsleigh turned up at HWA to collect our donations for the Red Cross charity appeal. We only found out about this campaign the day before its launch and so hastily put a notice out to parents for donations of used kids' books, stationary, toys and clothes and we got a great response (see the pics for some of the wonderful things we received).
HWA is such a close-knit community where parents and students support each other like a family. On the 3rd Dec 2016, our Parents Support Group (PSG) held a fantastic BBQ night and it was so exciting to see parents come down to join us. Besides the regular BBQ items, some parents even prepared authentic Chinese ZhaJiang noodles and Chinese tea!
Look! What is going on? There are videographers in the school interviewing teachers and students.
It was our great hornour to host the officials from the Foreign Affairs department of the Shangrao city Education Bureau, Jiangxi province, China and the president of the Jiangxi Singapore Chamber of Commerce. Our guests had a school tour and met a group of junior school students who were having their PE lesson.
We were delighted to meet Year 1 to Year 6 parents in our Morning Tea with the Principal this Wednesday. The morning tea meeting has been a tradition for our principal Mr.Chan to communicate with parents for years. Although Mr. Chan usually sees many of the parents during the morning drop off, the morning tea session provides an opportunity for in-depth discussion and communication.
Who says Maths and Science are boring? Grades One to Six students from HWA learned that Maths and Science can be both stimulating and fun at the same time through the many activities they participated in over the past three days.
