On 8th Feb, HWA Green Club members went to the Jurong Bird Park. The trips coincided with the celebration of the Year of the Rooster and our focus on birds of Singapore and Asia. During the trip, students participated in the Zoo-Diac Trail, which included stops at Birds of Prey, the Lory Loft, Jungle Jewels, Wings of Asia and the World of Darkness.
Welcoming the Year of the Rooster!
When parents, staff and students walked into the Hillside World Academy (HWA) today for the Chinese New Year celebration, they would have noticed the many beautiful Chinese New Year decorations all around the school - lanterns, flowers, couplets etc. Indeed, everyone could feel the festive mood of the Chinese New Year!
HWA students won the 1st prize (team) in the Chinese Proficiency Competition 2016 for Primary students from Singapore and Malaysia.
We are delighted to let you know that starting from this semester, our PE teacher – Mr. Villanueva - has introduced a new sport Euro Hockey to the students.
Euro Hockey is a territory-invasion game that will allow them to understand and learn the fundamentals of such games. This will also give them opportunities to play, build skills, learn team work and fair play.
We hope our students had a great time with their family during the Christmas holiday. We are so excited to see our students next week and believe they will be thrilled to see the change of our campus!
A new playground, swings and a trampoline have been set up during the holiday time. We are sure the play area will be full of fun and laughter.
On the first week of December, we were very honored to host the teachers from Henan Jianye Group in China. The teachers had a school tour and we shared with them our experiences on how to build a truly bilingual and bicultural international school.
This morning, our school celebrated Christmas! We had loads of fun. The performances by our students and parents were wonderful. All the classes had a party (the school bought a Christmas log cake for every class). We also had the Great Gift Exchange!
On the 13 December 2016, the Singapore Police Force paid a highly anticipated visit to HWA Kindergarten to share with the children about what they do. The police officers, from the Hougang Neighbourhood Police Centre, introduced their uniforms, weapons (T-baton, handcuffs, revolver, radio receiver & bullets), hats, modes of transport, and their roles and responsibilities to the community.
Look at these lovely junior school students having great fun during their rollerblading after school activity guided by the professional coach at the Bay front. Brilliant skating skills children!
On December 2nd an UBERsleigh turned up at HWA to collect our donations for the Red Cross charity appeal. We only found out about this campaign the day before its launch and so hastily put a notice out to parents for donations of used kids' books, stationary, toys and clothes and we got a great response (see the pics for some of the wonderful things we received).
