International Baccalaureate® (IB) Primary School Primary Years Programme
The International Baccalaureate® (IB) Primary Years Programme is a curriculum framework designed for students aged 3 to 12 to prepare them for their future intellectually.
The IB Primary School Primary Years Program develops a student's social, academic and emotional wellbeing by focusing on strong personal values and international-mindedness. The Primary Years Program nurtures and encourages critical and independent thinking and learning and encourages students to take responsibility for their education and learning abilities. The program also includes global and local issues into the education syllabus and encourages students to look at six related transdisciplinary themes and consider the relationships among them. The theme concepts include "where we are in place and time", "who we are" and how the world works".
Mastering English And Mandarin
All students in the International Baccalaureate® (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) have the opportunity to learn more than one language. At Hillside World Academy, we focus on equipping our students with the mastery of English and Mandarin - the two most important languages we believe will give our students a competitive edge.
Language is always involved in any learning process and it provides an intellectual framework to support and develop critical thinking and conceptual development.

Continuing and leveling up the dual language and inquiry-based instruction at the Kindergarten levels, HWA’s IB PYP is centred on achieving a balance of language, academic and affective learning outcomes. From students’ formative years, the PYP lays the plinth on which students can build and hone English and Mandarin skills, lifelong learning dispositions, and important character traits. Our hope is for students to become caring and independent learners with the attitude to respect others and themselves.
Drawing from extensive, provocative, and fun classroom experiences, HWA’s IB PYP encourages young learners to participate in creative ways, and establishes a strong foundation for learning in their later years through the five core elements of instruction: Action, Concepts, Skills, Attitudes, and Knowledge.

Assessment:
Assessment is an important part of each unit of inquiry as it both enhances learning and provides opportunities for students to reflect on what they know, understand, and can do. The teachers give feedback, which in turn guides our students to becoming more capable and independent learners. The type of certification awarded upon completion of the final year course is a Primary 6 Graduation Certificate.
