Physical wellbeing is the ability to maintain a healthy quality of life that allows us to get the most of our daily activities without fatigue or physical stress. It includes taking care of our bodies and recognizing that our daily habits and behaviours have a significant impact on our overall health, wellbeing and quality of life.

HWA addresses the physical health of our student with the ultimate goal of supporting student success in their learning process.

HWA ensures optimum student wellbeing through a range of practices such as:

  • Providing first aid and arranging for further assessment for a child who becomes sick or injured at school or to a child who exhibits a change in behavior due to a physical problem
  • Notifying parents/guardians when additional medical treatment or attention is required and making appropriate referrals
  • Playing a part in educating staff and students with health talks either internally by the school nurse or by collaborating with external vendors to offer talks and programmes during assembly

HWA works continuously to ensure the social well-being of each student where strong and meaningful social relationships are fostered among students and with HWA staff. An array of programmes and activities are put in place to boost a school culture that supports integration and inclusion; and ensure the development of international-mindedness and sense of contribution to society.

HWA provides students with various opportunities to learn essential social skills and provide authentic and purposeful connection with others by:

  • Encouraging students’ participation in school events and activities like Sports Day, International Day and many more so as to create shared experiences for the students.
  • Celebrating important and relevant festivals to enhance cross-cultural understanding and tolerance.

At HWA, our dedicated Well-Being team believes that every learner brings a unique set of perspectives into our diverse community. Our counselling services are tailored to the individual’s needs and is a means to provide support and guidance for our young learners as they grow into their full potential.

Through our pastoral care and well-being curriculum, our students acquire socio-emotional skills such as peer relations, self-regulatory techniques and responsible decision-making. By giving our students regular opportunities to work together and leverage on the strengths of their members, they learn to build relationships and develop communication skills that will come in handy to manage interpersonal difficulties.

Our counsellor meets learners for anything from a casual drop-by to more in-depth discussions during snack and lunch times, as well as after school. Meetings with the counsellor can be scheduled via email, in-person or asking teachers to arrange a session on their behalf. We believe that it takes a village to raise a child; hence, HWA values the importance of working together with parents, teachers and other staff to create a conducive and safe learning environment for all of our students.
