On October 30, HWA International School celebrated International Day, transforming the campus into a vibrant showcase of global cultures. Each grade represented a different country, including the United States, the Philippines, Singapore, China’s Xinjiang region, Mongolia, Spain, and Liechtenstein. Students took center stage, presenting insights into their assigned nation’s history and culture, and many wore traditional attire to bring authenticity and color to their presentations. This celebration not only highlighted diverse customs but also underscored the global learning approach embedded in HWA’s educational philosophy.
The event included more than presentations—students sampled a variety of traditional foods from each country, creating a multicultural food fair that allowed them to explore flavors from around the world. This culinary experience added a sensory dimension to the day, enriching students’ understanding of cultural diversity through taste. Adding to the festivities, students participated in Mölkky, a traditional Finnish game, which provided a fun way to learn that play, like food, connects people across cultures.
International Day aligns closely with HWA’s dedication to the International Baccalaureate (IB) philosophy, emphasizing the development of open-minded, globally aware students. Through activities like these, students embody key IB traits, such as being “Inquirers” and “Caring,” and deepen their respect for diverse perspectives. HWA’s approach to education extends beyond the classroom to include real-world learning experiences, helping students cultivate empathy, curiosity, and respect for other cultures.
Events like International Day bring HWA’s mission to life, offering students valuable insights into global interconnectedness and preparing them to navigate a multicultural world. This celebration reinforces HWA’s commitment to nurturing internationally minded individuals, equipping students with skills and values essential for a global society.
