In line with our vision to integrate eastern and western cultures and our mission to develop bilingualism among our students, HWA International School celebrated Chinese New Year on Friday, 5th February 2021. Prior to that, students learned about the origins of Chinese New Year and Greetings in Mandarin during the class time.
On the day of celebration, the audience was mesmerized by the performances given by our young KG/G1 student group, the informative stage show presented by G3, and the Chinese traditional shadow play prepared by G4. Several of our teachers also showed their talents on stage. Some teachers and DP students sang Chinese songs. With Mr. Ryan playing the piano, our school choir performed a Chinese song. Our science teacher Mr. Bryne also gave the audience a surprise piano solo. Of course, the highlights of the day were definitely the Lion Dance by G4 students, the drum performance and Dragon Dance by G5/G6 students.
The whole school gathered in the multi-purpose hall for bonding games such as balloon race, gunny sack race and passing flowers with the drum. The committee had spent a lot of time planning games for both the students and teachers. Through the above memorable activities, the students learned and appreciated Chinese traditions and they will always remember this special day spent together with their teachers and schoolmates.
