At HWA International School, experiential learning is a cornerstone of our educational approach, allowing students to engage with the world around them while connecting their academic knowledge to real-life experiences. In January alone, students across various levels participated in four enriching excursions, showcasing our commitment to providing diverse and frequent out-of-classroom learning opportunities.
For our Primary Years Programme (PYP) students, January was a month of exploration and creativity. They embarked on a sketching activity at Marina Bay Sands, using Singapore’s iconic architecture as inspiration to hone their artistic skills. Additionally, they visited the Harbourfront Library, where interactive reading sessions brought stories to life and fostered a love for learning in an engaging environment.
Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Diploma Programme (DP) students also took part in exciting field trips that complemented their IB education. A spring outing to Hort Park offered hands-on learning about environmental sustainability and biodiversity, essential themes in their curriculum. Later in the month, students visited the Art Museum @ National Gallery Singapore, where they explored cultural narratives and artistic expression, deepening their understanding of interdisciplinary learning.
Experiential learning is an essential component of IB education, as it emphasizes deepening students’ learning and understanding through real-world experiences. The multiple excursions in January showcased this principle, offering students valuable opportunities to apply classroom knowledge in real-life settings. These activities not only foster inquiry and reflection but also help students make connections between their studies and the world around them, promoting critical thinking and a global perspective—core values of the IB philosophy.
At HWA International School, we believe in creating an immersive educational journey where students grow academically, culturally, and socially through frequent and meaningful experiences.
