As the doors of HWA International School swung open on the first day of the 2024/25 academic year, the campus buzzed with excitement and anticipation. We were delighted to welcome back our vibrant community of students, eager to embark on a new journey of learning and growth.
The day began with an inspiring opening ceremony, setting a positive tone for the year ahead. Our Principal, Mr. Shi, delivered an encouraging speech to our Kindergarten and Primary students, emphasizing the importance of curiosity, kindness, and resilience in their learning journey. Meanwhile, the Vice-Principal, Ms. Huang addressed our Middle and High School students, urging them to take responsibility for their education, set ambitious goals, and contribute positively to the school community.
Following the speeches, students were introduced to the various student support programs designed to ensure their success and well-being throughout the year. Our school meal program ensures that every student receives balanced and nutritious meals, keeping them energized and focused throughout the day. For those who may need extra academic assistance, our Learning Support program provides tailored help to ensure that every child has the opportunity to succeed, regardless of their challenges.
Beyond academics, we emphasize the importance of social responsibility and empathy through our Community Service and Volunteering initiatives, offering students meaningful opportunities to engage with and contribute to the local community. Understanding that school life can sometimes be challenging, we also offer Personal Development and Psychological Counseling services to support students’ mental and emotional well-being, helping them navigate any difficulties they may encounter. Additionally, we prioritize open communication between students, parents, and teachers, ensuring a supportive and collaborative school environment that fosters growth and understanding.
After the introduction of these essential programs, students proceeded to their classrooms, where they had the opportunity to meet their teachers and discuss their Co-Curricular Activity (CCA) selections. This was followed by a review of the ground rules from the student handbook and a briefing on safety protocols to ensure a safe and respectful school environment.
The day continued with a variety of activities tailored to different age groups. Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Diploma Programme (DP) students engaged in a goal-setting session, where they reflected on their aspirations for the year and mapped out their plans to achieve them. Meanwhile, Primary Years Programme (PYP) students enjoyed a fun and creative handicraft session, allowing them to express their creativity and bond with their peers.
As the first day came to a close, the energy on campus was palpable. The students left with a renewed sense of purpose and excitement for the year ahead. At HWA International School, we are committed to nurturing the minds and hearts of our students, and we look forward to a year filled with learning, growth, and memorable experiences.
